Ground truth, at this exact moment
How tunc turns a live moment into a point on the map
tunc is an Android capture app and tunc.live is its public map. Together, they make it easier to see what is happening now through fresh, location-bound captures.

Why tunc exists
Most online posts arrive after the fact. They can be delayed, selected, edited, reposted, or disconnected from the place and time they claim to show. That makes it difficult to understand a fast-moving event from the ground.
tunc is built for another kind of signal: a fresh capture made at a real location, at a specific time. It is useful when several points of view matter: a crowd near a stage, an entrance queue, a road closure, or the quieter street a block away.
Not a social feed
tunc does not ask people to build an audience or curate a gallery. The focus is the evidence in a capture and the context that travels with it: where and when it was made.
The name comes from the Latin word for “at that exact moment.” That is the standard tunc aims to preserve: a view of an event while it is still unfolding.
How a capture moves through tunc
The Android app is designed to make a direct camera capture, attach its provenance, and send it through the publishing process. There is no password to create or remember.
- Start with the device. A person claims a username, while the device creates a cryptographic key pair in its hardware-backed security area. The private key remains on the device.
- Wait for an accurate location. The camera shutter is available only after the device has an accurate GPS lock, so the capture can be associated with usable coordinates.
- Take a fresh photo. tunc captures from the camera rather than accepting an image from the phone gallery. The capture time and location are bound to the submitted data.
- Sign and submit. The device signs the capture payload with its hardware-backed key. The backend checks the corresponding public key before a capture can move forward.
- Review and publish. Submitted captures are reviewed before public publication. Approved captures can appear on the public map and may be retained as part of the ground-truth record.

See captures on the real map at tunc.live
The mobile app is where a capture begins. tunc.live is the separate public website where people can explore published captures in their geographic context.
When tunc.live loads, it requests the latest public captures and places each valid latitude and longitude on a dark, interactive world map. The map automatically frames the available points, making an active area visible without needing to search for it first.
Each orange map marker represents a capture. Select a marker to open its capture details, including the photo, coordinates, and capture time. This makes it possible to move from a broad view of activity to the specific point of view behind it.
- Scan an area: See where recent published captures are appearing.
- Open a point: Select a marker to inspect its image and context.
- Compare perspectives: Use multiple nearby points to understand an event from more than one position.

One system, two ways to participate
Use the tunc Android app to contribute a live, location-bound capture. Use tunc.live to view approved captures on the map. The app provides the source; the map makes that source legible in place and time.
That is the purpose of tunc: fewer assumptions about what happened, and a clearer view of what was captured at the moment it mattered.
